An autopsy has confirmed that a 27-year-old man died from a gunshot wound during protests against an Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia County. The findings have increased pressure on authorities.
The postmortem examination sponsored by VOCAL Africa showed that the bullet entered the front and side of the left shoulder and exited through the right upper shoulder area. The organisation has called for those responsible for the death to face prosecution. The protests took place on June 2 after the Kenyan and US governments proposed a quarantine facility at Laikipia Air Base. Nanyuki residents opposed the plan over health risks and lack of consultation. The High Court has suspended the project. Meanwhile, 31 people arrested during the protests were released after intervention by human rights groups. Of them, 17 pleaded guilty and were each fined Sh10,000.
