A wave of strikes and arson incidents has led to the closure of numerous secondary schools across several Kenyan counties.
More than 15 schools in Trans Nzoia, Nakuru, Bomet, Kericho, Narok, Kisii and Nyamira counties have been affected. St Teresa’s Bikeke Girls Secondary School in Kiminini was closed after reports of a planned strike. Principal Eva Tsuma requested students be allowed home as a precaution. County Education Director Pamela Akello confirmed the indefinite closure while investigations continue.
