Pedro Sánchez spoke on Sunday at the Juventudes Socialistas congress in Madrid. The president asked his partners for time so reforms can take root and criticized the opposition.
The secretary general of the PSOE closed the 27th Congress of Juventudes Socialistas at the UGT headquarters in Madrid. He stressed the need for time so that transformations in social rights and housing can take root.
Sánchez said the government will act forcefully against attempts by the opposition to bring it down with underhand tactics. He noted that the PSOE will continue governing until 2027 and beyond if Spaniards so decide.
The socialist leader criticized José María Aznar’s words about whoever can do it should do it. He described the phrase as an antidemocratic proclamation and recalled corruption cases and the Iraq war during Aznar’s term.
Aránzazu Figueroa was elected secretary general of Juventudes Socialistas, the first woman in the post. Sánchez set targets for 2030, including reaching 80 percent clean energy and 8 percent protected housing.
