Apple is developing two updated Apple Pencil models expected in the first half of 2027. The changes aim to improve repairability in response to new European Union regulations on consumer electronics.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the models carry codenames B582 and B632. One will update the entry-level Apple Pencil with USB-C charging, while the other refreshes the Apple Pencil Pro.
The designs could introduce replaceable batteries to meet upcoming EU rules. This follows Apple's earlier shift to USB-C ports on the iPhone 15 series due to similar regulations.
All current Apple Pencil models have received poor repairability ratings from iFixit because their internal batteries cannot be replaced. The new versions are also tied to expected updates for iPad devices.
