Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced released on July 9, 2026, marking one of the strongest Steam launches for the franchise. Ubisoft Barcelona developers who worked on the game face layoffs at the end of the month. The studio has not been assigned new projects following the release.
The game is already the best reviewed entry in the series in over a decade. It is poised to be a major seller for Ubisoft during a year with limited new releases from the publisher.
QA lead Isabel Codina García posted on LinkedIn about the situation. She wrote that after seven years at Ubisoft Barcelona this was not how she imagined her time there ending. She also noted that the AC team learned of a collective redundancy plan two weeks before launch.
The layoffs form part of broader cuts at Ubisoft. These began in June and include the closure of Ubisoft Winnipeg. The Spanish union La Confederación General del Trabajo called for strikes over the planned termination of 51 employees at the Barcelona studio. Nearly a third of the office is set to be eliminated by the end of July.
