The 15th Tamil Nadu State Deaf Chess Championship took place on January 25 at The Clarke School for the Deaf in Mylapore. Around 100 players from 10 districts competed in sub-junior, junior, and senior categories. Students from the host school performed strongly, with two selected for the national event in Nagpur.
The 15th Tamil Nadu State Deaf Chess Championship – 2026 was organized by the Tamil Nadu Sports Council of the Deaf (TNSCD) and hosted by The Association for the Deaf, Chennai. The event occurred on January 25 at The Clarke School for the Deaf in Mylapore, drawing about 100 players from 10 districts across Tamil Nadu. Competitors participated in sub-junior, junior, and senior categories.
Students from The Clarke School for the Deaf achieved top positions in their respective categories. Two of these students were chosen to represent Tamil Nadu at the national-level Deaf Chess Championship held in Nagpur.
S. N. Srikanth, secretary of The Clarke School for Children with Special Needs, served as the chief guest. The championship was coordinated by Shobana of TNSCD and A. Ponnuswamy, secretary of TNSCD, with support from office bearers of TNSCD and The Association for the Deaf.
Srikanth noted that the Clarke School has been offering chess coaching to its students through the Mylapore Chess Academy.
