The Court of Guarantee of Antofagasta accepted the request from former mayor Karen Rojo's defense and credited her with 1,463 days spent in detention in the Netherlands. This leaves the former municipal leader with about one year left to serve her five-year-and-one-day sentence for fraud against the state.
On the morning of Friday, July 24, 2026, the court ruled to credit the days Rojo spent deprived of liberty while her extradition was processed to her sentence.
Rojo was detained in Amsterdam on July 13, 2022, and held for nearly four years in the Penitentiary of Utrecht. Defense lawyer Fidel Castro stated that “1,463 days are additionally credited, up to July 14 of this year” and that this amounts to 80% of the sentence served.
The former mayor of Antofagasta is serving her sentence at the Centro Penitenciario Femenino de Santiago. Castro noted that the defense will now evaluate requests for prison benefits.
