Para dressage competition starts at Willinga Park

Day one of the Carlton Performance Horses CPEDI3* para dressage and Virtus event took place at Willinga Park on February 27, 2026, with competitors facing damp conditions. Five combinations secured FEI World Championship qualifying scores in the Grand Prix A test. Standout performances included high marks for accuracy and harmony.

The competition at Willinga Park featured riders across various levels, including CPEDI2* Para Intermediate and CPEDI3* Para Grand Prix classes, as well as Virtus events. Despite a damp start with drizzle affecting the morning sessions for Grade I, II, and III riders, participants showed resilience amid technical issues like non-functional headsets and lost stirrups.

In the CPEDI3* Para Grand Prix A, five combinations met the qualifying threshold of 67% or above, contributing to Australia's FEI World Championship selection policy requirements for two such scores in CPEDI3* events between October 1, 2025, and June 15, 2026. The scores were: Bridget Murphy and Penmain Promise at 67.414%; Kylie Christian and Ivan Carlos at 67.764%; Claire Graham and Furst Olli 3 at 69.889%; Lisa Martin and Vilaggio at 72.906%; and Mietta Innes-Irons and Sir Helmut at 68.889%.

Lisa Martin and Vilaggio earned the highest score of the day across all CPEDI3* classes with 72.906%, delivering a harmonious and accurate test. Claire Graham's ride on Furst Olli 3 was noted for its effortless power and precision. Other notable rides included Kate Nipperess on Dame Remi Wolverine in CPEDI2* Para Intermediate A II, Danielle Loizou and BML Jack Sparrow in A III, Sarah Sherwood and Dicavalli Royal Guess in A IV, Heidi Ford and Rikaardt H in A V, Dianne Barnes and Tjibbe B in CPEDI3* Para Grand Prix A IV, Isabella Parisi and Coolinda Park Adasha Flazh in II1 Virtus, and Grace Murphy-Ryan and Pemberton Show Bizz in II3 Virtus.

Overall scores were slightly lower than at the previous Boneo Park event, possibly due to weather and external factors, but the atmosphere remained positive. Competitors expressed pride in their achievements, highlighting the depth of Australian para dressage. Live results are available via Equipe.
