Seven American citizens with Ebola placed in quarantine in Kenya

A Reuters report states that seven American aid workers suffering from Ebola have been placed in a quarantine center in Kenya.

Franklin Graham, head of the aid organization Samaritan’s Purse, confirmed the measure. He said it resulted from travel restrictions imposed by the Donald Trump administration on infected citizens returning home.

Protests took place in Nanyuki several weeks earlier against construction of a quarantine center at the Laikipia military camp. Residents opposed the move over fears of the disease spreading.

A court ordered the construction halted. Health Minister Aden Duale submitted documents in court confirming compliance with the order after being summoned to provide explanations.

President William Ruto defended the center’s construction. He said it was one of several built in the country and that Kenya had a duty to assist infected American citizens, with the work funded by the United States.
