TMC leader Jay Prakash Majumdar arrested over property dispute allegations

Trinamool Congress spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar was arrested on Wednesday in connection with allegations of illegally occupying a flat in Bidhannagar for over a decade and harassing the owner.

Police detained Majumdar after a protest outside the flat turned into an altercation. He was taken to Bidhannagar North police station and arrested on charges including illegal occupation and making threats.

The owner, Arati Raychaudhari, alleged that Majumdar rented the flat in 2012 with the lease expiring in 2015. She claimed he neither renewed the agreement nor vacated the premises and stopped paying rent.

Majumdar also faces accusations of derogatory remarks and threats against the complainant. One report mentioned additional molestation allegations in the dispute. A separate unrelated arrest occurred the same day in Kolkata.
