Marvel Studios is expanding its roster of villains with the casting of Tramell Tillman as William Metzger in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Metzger, an anti-mutant figure and leader of the group known as Damage Control, originates from X-Men lore. Created by Joe Casey and Steve Rude in 1999, he first appeared in X-Men: Children of the Atom 1 and led the Anti-Mutant Militia in the subsequent miniseries.
The reveal comes from an exclusive report by Nexus Point News, noting that Tillman has signed a multi-picture deal, potentially extending to Marvel's upcoming X-Men films. This debut subverts expectations, as fans anticipated a major antagonist for the Mutant Saga, but instead positions Metzger to bridge phases in the MCU.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day launches a new trilogy for Tom Holland's Peter Parker, confirmed in December 2021 following Spider-Man: No Way Home. The story portrays a more mature and stoic Spider-Man. Returning cast includes Zendaya as Michelle Jones, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. Additionally, Marvin Jones III joins as Tombstone, a role he previously voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Rumors suggest a shift from the Smart Hulk to a more violent version of the character. Tillman, recognized for his role as Seth Milchik in the Apple TV+ series Severance, has also appeared in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Hunters, Sweethearts, and Godfather of Harlem.
