Al-Sisi and Afwerki discuss Red Sea security and Sudan crisis

The two leaders held an expanded bilateral meeting followed by a one-on-one session, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency. Al-Sisi stressed the importance of strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation between Egypt and Eritrea while reaffirming support for Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Discussions also focused on stability in the Horn of Africa, which Al-Sisi described as an extension of Egypt’s national security. Afwerki expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to promote peace and development in the region. The leaders reviewed the latest developments in Sudan, reaffirming support for the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and the need to end the ongoing conflict. They also addressed Red Sea security, with Al-Sisi noting that littoral states bear primary responsibility for the waterway’s governance and stability.
