Ballast Point launches art-focused beer event

Ballast Point Brewing is hosting The Art of Beer, an intimate event celebrating beer labels and brand designs, on March 14 at its Little Italy location in San Diego. The gathering brings together local breweries for tastings, art displays, and discussions, aiming to offer a more creative alternative to standard beer festivals. Tickets are available online, with a VIP option providing early access and additional perks.

San Diego's craft beer scene is seeing renewed enthusiasm for unique events, as evidenced by the quick sell-out of Russian River Brewing's Pliny the Younger release despite increased availability. Businesses are innovating beyond traditional formats like pint nights and trivia to stand out in a saturated market. Beer festivals have gained some traction recently but remain below pre-pandemic levels.

Ballast Point Brewing is tapping into this trend with The Art of Beer, scheduled for Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. at its venue on 2215 India Street in Little Italy. The event features participating breweries including 3 Punk Ales, AleSmith Brewing, Coronado Brewing, Fall Brewing, Harland Brewing, Pizza Port Brewing, and Societe Brewing. Each brewery will create a personalized setup to showcase their brand identity, accompanied by enlarged artwork pieces measuring nearly seven feet tall and three feet wide.

Attendees can interact with brewery representatives, sample beers, and vote for categories such as best beer and best label. A panel discussion with local brewers is also planned. Ballast Point Brand Ambassador Jeff Lozano described the event as "a place where it feels more like a creative meet-up and art show. The art of the beer labels, brand logos and the beer itself – it’s part tasting event, part art walk and part community hang."

Lozano noted that selections focused on influential breweries rather than judging artwork, with potential for expansion if successful. Ballast Point will serve its own beers but spotlight guests. Future plans include collaboration beers, pairing dinners, and reviving the Dedicated to the Craft podcast at a new Little Italy studio.

Tickets include a VIP tier with one-hour early entry, limited tastings, food pairings, and a $10 gift card from each participating brewery.
