Elisabeth Moss to lead Hulu's new legal drama Conviction

Elisabeth Moss, known for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, will star in Conviction, a new legal drama series ordered by Hulu. The show, based on a 2023 book by Jack Jordan, follows a defense attorney facing blackmail in a high-profile murder case. Production is set to begin in June in New York.

Elisabeth Moss is set to headline Conviction, a legal drama that Hulu has greenlit for a full series. Created by David Shore, known for House and The Good Doctor, the series is produced by 20th Television. It adapts Jack Jordan's 2023 novel of the same name.

The story centers on Neve Harper, a confident criminal defense attorney played by Moss. She takes on a career-defining case involving a husband accused of murdering his wife by arson. Complications arise when a mysterious stranger blackmails Neve, forcing her to weigh legal, moral, and ethical boundaries to secure an acquittal and protect her own secrets.

Development moved quickly after Shore pitched the pilot script. Hulu requested an outline for a second episode, but Shore delivered a complete script instead. This impressed the streamer, leading to a prompt series order. The writers’ room is slated to open later this month, with filming starting in June in New York.

Moss will executive produce alongside Shore, Warren Littlefield, and Bert Salke. Additional producers include Erin Gunn for Shore Z Productions, Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison for The Littlefield Co., Salke for Co-Lab21, Moss and Lindsey McManus for Love & Squalor Pictures, and Jordan.

Moss gained prominence as June Osborne in Hulu's The Handmaid’s Tale, which concluded after six seasons in 2025. Her other notable works include the films The Invisible Man, Us, and The Square, as well as TV series like Shining Girls, Top of the Lake, and The Veil. Upcoming, she stars in Imperfect Women on Apple TV+ with Kerry Washington and Kate Mara, premiering March 18.

Further casting details for Conviction are expected soon. The Handmaid’s Tale is available to stream in full on Hulu.
