A trial chamber of the International Criminal Court has canceled the status conference scheduled for July 14 in the case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. The chamber cited no urgent issues raised by the parties. The next conference is set for September 16.
Trial Chamber III decided against holding the hearing after the defense, prosecution, and victims' representatives stated they had no specific matters requiring attention at this stage. Presiding Judge Joanna Korner had previously indicated that Duterte was expected to attend the September conference unless medical issues arose.
Duterte faces three counts of crimes against humanity related to his drug war policies. He has been detained at the Scheveningen prison complex in The Hague since his surrender to the ICC in March 2025. A medical panel is assessing his fitness for trial.
The trial is scheduled to begin on November 30. Duterte has not appeared in person before the judges since his initial hearing via video link in March 2025.
