Mamata Banerjee holds dharna, claims TMC will grow stronger

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee staged a dharna on Monday, alleging police intimidation of party legislators and accusing the BJP of threats and inducements aimed at weakening her party.

Banerjee said the party would emerge stronger from recent incidents. She criticised what she described as assaults on leaders including MP Abhishek Banerjee and claimed hospitals were directed not to treat the injured.

The chief minister alleged that police were threatening TMC MLAs with cases if they attended party meetings. She also said security for her and other leaders had been withdrawn and that the Calcutta High Court order to return displaced workers to their homes was not being implemented.

Banerjee dismissed reports of internal unrest. She stated that TMC belongs to its workers rather than leaders who may have reached understandings with other parties after electoral setbacks. She added that the party holds evidence of vote rigging in 177 seats.
