Incoming President Abelardo De la Espriella announced the appointment of Sandra Suárez as director of the Departamento de Prosperidad Social. Suárez, a former minister under Álvaro Uribe Vélez, is tasked with reducing poverty through transparency and opportunities.
De la Espriella announced the appointment on social media on July 25, 2026. He highlighted Suárez's leadership and her experience in both the public and private sectors.
Suárez stated she will operate with transparency and without political favoritism to lift people out of poverty. She served as environment minister from 2003 to 2006 and led Grupo Semana from 2016 to 2023.
The official has visited all 32 departments of the country and more than 400 municipalities. De la Espriella noted her mission is to make the DPS an efficient entity close to families.
