A plot synopsis for the upcoming Marvel film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been revealed through a publisher's listing for its companion art book. The description indicates the story unfolds four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Peter Parker erased from public memory. The film follows the hero as he confronts a major mystery tied to his past.
The synopsis surfaced on the Penguin Random House website for the book Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art Of The Movie, set for release on August 4, 2026, after the film's July 31 debut. It states: “Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero. Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe. Things are going well for our anonymous hero until an unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he’s ever faced before. In order to take on what’s ahead, Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past!”
This marks the first official plot details for the film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who confirmed filming wrapped in December 2025. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, now operating solely as the anonymous Spider-Man following the memory-erasing spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The cast includes Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, both unaware of Parker's identity, alongside Sadie Sink in an undisclosed major role, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher in a family-friendly portrayal, and Marvin Jones III as the villain Tombstone.
The title draws from a 2008 Marvel Comics series that depicted a reset in Peter Parker's life after a significant event. Producer Amy Pascal noted the story addresses Parker's decision to abandon his civilian life: “We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and he was gonna focus on being Spider-Man, because being Peter Parker was too hard.” Marvel Studios has not yet released a trailer, but Holland described the film as “a fresh start” for the character.
