Anbernic has unveiled a new video demonstrating the RG VITA Pro, a retro gaming handheld that supports dual-booting Android 14 and 64-bit Linux. The device highlights strong emulation performance for various consoles and native Android gaming capabilities. It marks a significant upgrade from the standard RG VITA model, which is limited to Android 12.
Anbernic announced the RG VITA and RG VITA Pro handhelds in early February, and on March 4, 2026, the company released a six-minute video focusing on the Pro model's features. The video demonstrates the device's dual-boot system, allowing users to switch between Android 14 for native gaming and a 64-bit Linux OS optimized for emulation.
Emulation forms a core part of the showcase, with footage of PS Vita games including Gravity Rush and Adventures of Mana running smoothly. The handheld also handles PS2 titles such as Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Neo Contra, and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. Additional examples include PSP games like God of War, as well as Nintendo systems with GameCube, N64, and Wii titles, featuring Muramasa: The Demon Blade.
On the Android side, native games Punishing: Gray Raven and Snowbreak perform well, according to the video. The device supports PC game streaming and can connect to external displays via HDMI for couch co-op gaming. Community discussions suggest a partnership with Gamma for the software, potentially improving on Anbernic's previous Android builds.
Hardware specifications include a 5.5-inch INCELL touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 5,000mAh battery, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C output, and HDMI support. The RG VITA Pro is the first retro handheld to use the RockChip RK3576 processor and will be available in black and white colors.
