New York Fashion Week for fall/winter 2026-2027 featured denim as a standout element, with designers embracing its versatility through dark washes, sustainable sources, nostalgia, and whimsical motifs. Amid micro-trends like brooches, mixed prints, and sheer fabrics, denim cut through with refined and playful interpretations.
Coach creative director Stuart Vevers repurposed denim alongside leather and shearling jackets and wool tailoring. The collection included upcycled denim in distressed jeans, long jean shorts, and black denim skirts, drawing references to 1930s and 1940s Hollywood, grunge, and Americana.
7 For All Mankind, under former Blumarine designer Nicola Brognano, highlighted peak 2000s aesthetics with low-rise skinny jeans tucked into tall leather boots, high-low hem skirts, and studded denim jackets. These were paired with extra-long skinny scarves, babydoll dresses, statement necklaces, opaque black tights, and large handbags.
L’Agence presented high-stretch skinny jeans with over-the-knee suede boots. Cinq à Sept, introducing its first jeans line, featured a military-inspired cut-away jacket, belted zip-up jacket, button-down maxi skirt, and dark wash jeans with contrast stitching.
Playful details emerged across collections: Advisry deconstructed pockets by exposing linings and adding hand outlines; Aknvas exaggerated peplum silhouettes in denim tops resembling 18th-century panniers; Tanner Fletcher’s cuffed acid-washed jeans revealed check and mallard duck prints.
Dark washes dominated, as seen in Tanya Taylor’s inky belted jacket with wide fur cuffs, Tibi’s dark wash trousers and skirted baggy jeans, and Area’s clean center-creased jeans. Todd Snyder offered bleached and dark wash jeans with prominent creases, while Campillo added sharp pleating to wide-leg jeans. Elena Velez incorporated black washes with grungy tints in jeans and asymmetrical skirts. Other brands incorporating denim included 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alice & Olivia, Anna Sui, Brandon Maxwell, Calvin Klein, Kallmeyer, N.Hoolywood, Ossou, PatBo, Ruadh, Tommy Hilfiger, and Veronica Beard.
