The New York City Council hosted what it described as its first-ever Pride Ball in the Council chambers on Tuesday, June 2, as part of the start of Pride Month.
The New York City Council held a Pride Ball in its Council chambers on June 2, an event listed on the Council’s public events calendar as “Pride At New York City Hall 2026.” A Yahoo News video report said the event was hosted by the Council’s LGBTQIA+ Caucus and that the chambers were transformed into a runway. Separately, The Daily Wire reported that drag performers walked through the chambers to loud applause from attendees. Mayor Zohran Mamdani also marked the start of Pride Month with a June 1 post on X arguing that “more than 30 days” would be needed to recognize the ways queer and transgender New Yorkers have shaped the city. In that post, he cited examples including the Cercle Hermaphroditos (1895), the Stonewall uprising, and ACT UP, which he noted was founded in 1987.
