Staunton area offers three events in March

Residents and visitors in the Staunton region of the Shenandoah Valley can enjoy a classic play, a brewery anniversary, and a Bach music marathon this month. These events highlight local theater, craft beer, and classical music. All are scheduled in mid-to-late March.

The Staunton area features three distinct events this March, providing opportunities for theater, celebration, and music appreciation.

First, ShenanArts Underground presents Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, directed by Robb Zahm. The play follows Vladimir and Estragon as they wait by a tree for someone named Godot, who never arrives, exploring themes of waiting, the human condition, and the search for meaning through sparse settings, repetitive dialogue, and absurdist humor. Performances occur at 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, March 12-14, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, in the basement of Queen City Place at 12 Byers St., Staunton. Tickets are available at shenanarts.ludus.com/index.php?show_id=200519172.

On Saturday, March 14, The Alpine Goat Brewery marks its second anniversary at 212 Chapel Hill Lane in Weyers Cave, just three miles from I-81. The free, all-ages event includes live music from Falling Rocks (1-4 p.m.) and Smoke and Mirrors (6-9 p.m.), a vendor market with local artisans, raffles, face painting, and baby goats for photos. Special beer releases feature small batches and the anniversary beer, Peppe’s Dunkel, honoring founder Eric Pisk’s father. The brewery offers German and Austrian-inspired beers and European fare in a farm setting.

Finally, on Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Heifetz Institute and Christ Lutheran Church host Bach Around the Clock at 2807 North Augusta St., Staunton. This free event celebrates Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday with performances by world-class musicians, Heifetz alumni, faculty, local artists, and students. Highlights include Paul Weber leading the Staunton Bach Orchestra and Chamber Choir in cantatas with audience participation; organist Dr. Daniel Aune on the Taylor & Boody Op. 24 organ; Andrew Gonzalez playing Bach’s Cello Suites Nos. 5 and 6 on viola da spalla; pianist Lawrence Quinett with selections from the French Suites; the Heifetz Ensemble in Residence performing Bach for Four; and the Charlottesville–Albemarle Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. The full schedule is at heifetzinstitute.org/event/bach-around-the-clock-2026.

These events showcase the cultural vibrancy of the Shenandoah Valley community.
