Vox mayor denies starting La Mierla wildfire

Rubén Marchamalo, mayor of Robledillo de Mohernando, appeared before the media on July 18 to deny involvement in the La Mierla fire. The blaze, which burned nearly 6,000 hectares, remains under investigation by the Civil Guard.

Marchamalo stated that he was not at the site where the fire started on Thursday. The councilor said his family had preventive means above the required level and asked for respect for the presumption of innocence while the Civil Guard clarifies the facts.

Vox deputy Iván Sánchez demanded public apologies for the initial accusations. Sánchez accused the government subdelegate in Guadalajara, Susana Cabellos, of biased leaks and called on media outlets to correct the information spread about the mayor.

Marchamalo thanked supporters at an improvised rally in Tamajón. In a message, the mayor defended the agricultural sector and said farmers are not criminals.
