Following their historic T20 World Cup 2026 victory over New Zealand—covered in our prior article—the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a ₹131 crore cash reward on March 10 for the Indian team, players, support staff, and selectors. This surpasses the ₹125 crore from 2024 and celebrates India as the first team to win the title three times.
The reward exceeds the previous post-2024 win payout. Each of the 15 squad members receives ₹6 crore, with ₹41 crore for support staff and selectors. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, “With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, further cementing their place among the most successful teams in the history of the format.”
Post-win, on March 9, captain Suryakumar Yadav, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, and coach Gautam Gambhir visited Ahmedabad's Hanuman Temple with the trophy. Former cricketer Kirti Azad criticized it on social media: “The Trophy Belongs to 1.4 BILLION Indians of EVERY Faith — NOT ONE RELIGION’S VICTORY LAP!” citing the diverse 1983 team.
England's Kevin Pietersen lauded player-of-the-tournament Sanju Samson: “Samson is a freak. I’ve always liked his style. He’s actually very conventional in the way he plays. Sees the ball early: that’s the key.” This win adds to India's 2007 and 2024 titles.
