IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, accompanied by Minister Luis Caputo, plans to tour Vaca Muerta on Tuesday. The visit follows meetings in Buenos Aires where she praised the government's economic program.
Georgieva held meetings at the Ministry of Economy and Casa Rosada on Monday. There she highlighted the Central Bank's reserve accumulation and the primary surplus. The monetary authority bought 27 million dollars that day, adding more than 13,000 million since the daily plan began.
Caputo stated that Georgieva “wants to see how Vaca Muerta develops with her own eyes”. The Añelo visit includes a tour of Loma Campana, operated by YPF and Chevron. Georgieva noted that “Argentina has an advantage with energy security”.
Neuquén deputies expressed reservations. Karina Maureira of La Neuquinidad valued the visit, while Pablo Todero of Unión por la Patria said “what matters is what they do not say”. Claudio Loser, former IMF director, described the trip as “public relations” and ruled out a new financing program.
