Guadalajara university presents Frankenstein book and free novel edition

The University of Guadalajara will launch a book on Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein film at the Guadalajara International Book Fair and distribute free copies of Cristina Rivera Garza's novel The Invincible Summer of Liliana. These events are among 70 activities in their pavilion during the fair, starting this Saturday. The initiative aims to promote culture and fight violence against women.

The University of Guadalajara's (UdeG) publishing house will actively participate in the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) with key presentations. On Friday, December 5, at 21:00 hours, they will launch the co-edition of the book on Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein film, produced with Trilce publishing. Sayri Karp, the publishing director, stated that the volume covers the production process, including costumes, locations, character development, and actor selection, narrated by the director himself.

Additionally, they will distribute free copies of Cristina Rivera Garza's novel The Invincible Summer of Liliana, a work that supports the fight against gender-based violence. Karp highlighted that this presentation underscores the university's social commitment. The FIL begins this Saturday, with the UdeG pavilion hosting 70 activities and new release presentations at 19:00 hours daily.

Marking the UdeG's centennial, two commemorative books will be published: Ideas, Actors and Politics by Adriana Costa, and 1925, the Popular Education Project of the University of Guadalajara, coordinated by Elisa Cárdenas Ayala with ten authors. The publishing house will receive the FIL's Editorial Merit Tribute, awarded to the Association of University Presses of Latin America and the Caribbean (EUNBLAC), with personal recognitions for Sayri Karp and Juan Felipe Córdoba Restrepo.

Karp outlined the publishing house's three functions: teaching, with textbooks for various educational levels; research, disseminating academic results to engage with international scholars; and culture, preserving Jalisco's heritage and connecting with Ibero-America. It produces 60 to 80 new titles annually, with a catalog of 800 works. Other events include Yo soy la cumbia on Wednesday the 3rd at 19:00 hours, Sara Valenzuela's Musicians on Foot, books from the recent winners of the Indigenous Literatures of the Americas Award, and the anthology for the City and Nature “José Emilio Pacheco” Award.

The unified UdeG stand will serve as a meeting point for university publishers from countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia, fostering cultural dialogue.
