On Tuesday, July 14, Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch and President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that no crime is inferred in the leaked audio of a call by Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar with people who identified themselves as US agents.
García Harfuch explained that he held a call with the governor alongside Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez. He said that security meetings share data on criminal incidence and ongoing cases without revealing sensitive information.
President Sheinbaum backed Marina del Pilar during her morning press conference and noted that the call does not compromise national security. She stated there was no authorization or complacency from foreign agencies.
Morena coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies Ricardo Monreal called on the governor to file a criminal complaint for espionage. He stressed that the case differs from that of Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos because there was no intervention by CIA agents.
