Colombia's Procuraduria General de la Nacion has opened a disciplinary investigation against Puerto Gaitan councilor Fernando Giraldo Garcia for the alleged assault on a National Police officer.
The events under investigation reportedly took place on May 12 2025 in the Puerto Triunfo area. According to the case, Giraldo Garcia injured a police officer during a protest and was detained at the scene.
The agency will assess whether the conduct amounts to a disciplinary offense and if circumstances implicate his responsibility. The councilor may confess or accept charges to reduce any potential sanction.
The probe draws on information sent by the Seccional Prosecutor's Office following the on-site arrest of the local official.
