A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Bengaluru's Whitefield area for allegedly stabbing his parents, a retired navy captain and a dentist, to death. The attack took place at their home on Wednesday morning amid a family issue. Police have yet to determine the exact motive.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday around 7:30 am at Villa No. 112 in Adarsh Vista Apartments, Vignan Nagar, within the HAL Police Station limits in Bengaluru's Whitefield area. Victims Naveen Chandra Bhat, a 60-year-old retired navy captain, and his wife Dr Shyamala Bhat, a 55-year-old dentist, were stabbed by their son Rohan Chandra Bhat. They were rushed to Manipal Hospital but succumbed to their injuries at about 8:15 am.
Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath stated, "On Wednesday at around 7.30 am, in the HAL Police Station limits, at Villa No. 112, Adarsh Vista Apartments, Vignan Nagar, Naveen Chandra Bhat, aged 60 years, a retired Navy Captain, and his wife Dr Shyamala Bhat, aged 55 years, a dentist, were stabbed by their son Rohan Chandra Bhat, aged 33 years, with the intention to kill over a family issue."
The case was registered based on a complaint from Dr Madhavi Nair, a resident of the apartment complex and a doctor at Manipal Hospital. The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the court. The DCP added, "The exact reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained."
The bodies are currently kept in the mortuary at Bowring Hospital. Their daughter is traveling from the United States, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted after her arrival. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic family incident.
