A 59-year-old resident opened fire on a basketball court at Azure Urban Resort Residences in Parañaque City on Wednesday, March 4, killing two people and injuring four others.
On March 4, around 7:59 pm, victims were playing basketball inside the Azure Urban Resort Residences, an upscale condominium in Barangay Marcelo Green, Parañaque City. The unnamed 59-year-old suspect entered the court's main gate and fired indiscriminately at the group without apparent reason, according to the Southern Police District (SPD) report.
Two men died: a 57-year-old single resident, declared dead on arrival at about 8:44 pm, and 29-year-old Arjay Gonzales, an alumnus of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. Gonzales was also a model. "The UPLB Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics stands with the public in condemning gun violence and calling for justice," the department stated. A friend shared, "I remember you as someone who loved getting photographed... I hope justice will be served. You did not deserve what happened to you."
Four other men were injured, all adult residents of the barangay; they are now in stable condition. The suspect remains at large and has a pending warrant of arrest from Taguig City Regional Trial Court for a 2023 homicide case. Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the suspect has mental health issues. "We are looking into it," Remulla told reporters. The SPD has launched a hot pursuit operation and is coordinating with other units to apprehend him.
