Spain marked its World Cup 2026 victory with a parade through Madrid on Monday attended by around two million fans. Lamine Yamal joined teammates in mocking an on-field clash involving Argentina's Leandro Paredes. The event capped an emotional week for the champions.
Lamine Yamal held up a sign labeling the post-match altercation between Paredes and Gavi the “event of the year” while riding on the team bus. The incident occurred after Spain’s extra-time win sealed by Ferran Torres’ 106th-minute goal.
Rodri, named Player of the Tournament, praised Torres during the ceremony. “I’d like to remember someone very important to me – a player who has been unfairly criticised and who today is a part of Spanish football history: Ferran,” he said.
Head coach Luis de la Fuente thanked the squad. “We are fortunate to have 26 fantastic people who are fantastic footballers,” the 65-year-old said. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also spoke, floating the idea of a third title when Spain co-hosts the 2030 finals.
