The St. John Fisher University indoor track and field teams competed in the Harvard Crimson Open and Boston University Valentine Invite over the weekend, posting several impressive performances against tough competition. Both the women's and men's squads qualified multiple athletes for the Atlantic Regional Championships and set personal and program records. Highlights included standout throws, jumps, and sprints from various team members.
Women's Team Performances
The St. John Fisher women's indoor track and field team participated in the Harvard Crimson Open and the Boston University Valentine Invite on Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Abigail Dorunda finished 25th in the 200-meter run at Boston University with a time of 25.60 seconds, qualifying for the Atlantic Regional Championships and coming just 0.1 seconds shy of the program's indoor record. In the 400-meter run, Dorunda clocked 59.62 seconds, the fourth-best indoor mark in Fisher history.
Sophomore Kianna Naval achieved the team's top result at Harvard, placing seventh in the triple jump with a personal-best of 10.95 meters, 0.02 meters short of the indoor record. Freshman Juliana Riemersma set personal records in the 200-meter (25.85 seconds) and 400-meter (59.20 seconds) runs at Boston University, both ranking third on the program's indoor top-five lists and qualifying her for regionals.
Other qualifiers included sophomore Brianne Hurlburt in the 800-meter run (2:19.91), freshman Emily Heiner in the 200-meter (season-best 25.94), and senior Caitlin Voloshen in the mile (5:05.57). Freshman Bailey Nixon recorded the third-best indoor 800-meter time at 2:22.69. At Harvard, senior Jazelle McIntyre placed fourth in the weight throw with 15.34 meters, securing regional qualification.
Men's Team Performances
The men's team also competed in the same meets. Senior Brandon Kaplan placed fifth in the weight throw at Harvard with 18.65 meters, 0.17 meters below his program record, in a field featuring Division I athletes. Junior Hayden Penna tied for second in the pole vault at 4.75 meters, the second-best indoor mark in program history, following his earlier record of 4.95 meters.
At Boston University, freshman Jace Stuart set a personal record in the mile at 4:16.62, third on the indoor top-five list and qualifying for regionals. Sophomore Corinthian Reed ran the 400-meter in 49.42 seconds, third-best indoors. Sophomore Michael Prentice's 200-meter time of 22.50 seconds ranks fifth, while sophomore Trystan Biller matched the fourth-fastest 60-meter at 7.08 seconds.
At Harvard, sophomore Daniel Davis placed fifth in the shot put with a personal-best 14.81 meters, fifth on the indoor list.
Both teams are scheduled for the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on February 20.
