Frida Karlsson, 26, dominated after taking the lead early, breaking away in the freestyle leg to win by 51 seconds over Ebba Andersson (54:36.2). Heidi Weng secured bronze at 55:11.9, 1:26.7 back, marking Sweden's one-two finish. Karlsson grabbed a Swedish flag before the line, saying, "I just had so much fun out there today and I am really proud of my whole team. The skis were super and the body felt amazing."
Jessie Diggins, the world No. 1 and U.S. star in her final Olympics before retirement, suffered a crash on the first lap's downhill turn when her ski tip caught slush, tangling with Norway's Karoline Simpson-Larsen. Dropping to 31st, she recovered strongly in freestyle—third-fastest split—to finish eighth in 56:06.3, 2:21.1 behind Karlsson. "The crash wasn’t that big of a deal to me... I was really encouraged by the skate half," Diggins said. "I’m in the best shape of my life."
