A 30-year-old man from Upington was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Upington Regional Court on 30 June 2026 for raping five boys aged 9 to 11.
The crimes occurred in June 2025 at a canal in Augrabies where the man joined the boys while they were swimming and sexually assaulted them.
One of the victims reported the incident to a teacher the next day, leading to the parents being informed. The boys received medical examinations at a local clinic that confirmed the assaults.
Police spokesperson Molefi Shemane stated that the accused was traced, arrested, and denied bail. He remained in custody until the trial concluded. The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered his name be entered in the national register for sex offenders.
