A woman was shot in the eye and a man suffered a grazing wound to the neck on Saturday night in the Campo Grande circuit during Salvador's Carnival. The shots followed an encounter between criminal groups after a carnival block passed. Two suspects were apprehended by police, and the victims are out of danger.
The incident took place on the night of February 14, 2026, in the Campo Grande circuit, one of the main revelry areas during Salvador's Carnival in Bahia. According to the Civil Police, the shots were fired amid a clash between criminal groups that occurred shortly after a carnival block passed. A woman was hit in the eye, while a man sustained a grazing wound to the neck.
Two suspects attempted to flee the scene but were pursued and caught by military police. The victims were taken to the General State Hospital, where they are receiving care and are out of danger. Their names have not been disclosed to protect their privacy.
The Civil Police has taken charge of investigating the circumstances of the crime, with policing intensified in the area to prevent further incidents. Bahia's state Public Security Secretary, Marcelo Werner, stated: "We already have a line of investigation. The images have been captured with teams working on this all night. This fact is our priority."
This was not an isolated case. On Thursday, February 12, a man was shot in a similar confusion in the same circuit, near Forte São Pedro. Despite the incidents, the Carnival drew a large crowd: around five million people passed through the 54 access gates to the circuits between February 12 and 14.
