Addis Ababa authority starts tenant data collection pilot

The Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority has launched a pilot project to collect tenants' information. It is collaborating with Addis Ababa University to implement the project. The system will enable tenants to access fast online services.

Addis Ababa, February 25, 2018 (Fana BC) – The Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority (AAWSA) has begun the pilot implementation of a project to collect tenants' information.

According to a statement from the authority, the project is being carried out in partnership with Addis Ababa University. AAWSA's chief communications officer, Moges Argaw, noted that the lack of an updated information analysis system has had a negative impact, and now they are advancing the implementation of a modern system for data collection.

The survey and data collection work will be conducted in the authority's 10 sub-cities, starting today in one sub-city on a pilot basis. In the coming years, it will expand to other sub-cities in three phases. This project will cover 600,000 customers for management review and bill adjustments based on the obtained information.

Additionally, it will allow tenants to access fast, affordable, and quality services online, including new water meter installations. It will help identify and reduce water-scarce areas, adjust neighbors' bills in a timely manner, and provide quick service to new tenants to increase revenue. The authority has urged tenants' information professionals to cooperate by providing accurate data.

Currently, the city has over 700,000 water customers, over 300,000 sewerage users, and over 600,000 water users in nearby areas outside condominiums. Up to 1.2 million residents could potentially be tenants.
