Ethio telecom and ericsson sign digital infrastructure pact

Ethio telecom has signed an agreement with ericsson to expand its network and strengthen digital infrastructure. The pact was inked on the sidelines of the mobile world congress in barcelona. It covers expansions, upgrades, and new technologies across 1,500 mobile stations.

Addis ababa, 26 katit 2018 (fana) – Ethio telecom has entered into an agreement with ericsson to undertake network expansions and upgrades aimed at elevating digital infrastructure to a higher level.

The agreement was signed on the fringes of the global mobile congress in barcelona, encompassing works for expansion, modernization, and integration of new technologies on 1,500 mobile stations operated by the network company. It aligns with ethio telecom's three-year strategy.

According to ethio telecom, the pact will significantly enhance network coverage, quality, and capacity to deliver the fast services required for digital economy expansion. Additionally, it enables the provision of suitable mobile technology services to rural areas comprising 75 percent beyond cities, while extending lte service accessibility to 276 towns.

The agreement is stated to serve as a strong foundation for the burgeoning digital ecosystem in ethiopia by supporting national platforms such as telebirr, zemen bank, and zenex.
