Father arrested from Rajasthan for murdering wife and three daughters in Delhi

A man has been arrested from Rajasthan for allegedly murdering his wife and three daughters in Delhi's Samaypur Badli area. The killings, which took place on February 25, are linked to financial troubles, police said. The accused confessed to the crimes during interrogation.

On February 25, a mother and her three young daughters were found with their throats slit in their home in Samaypur Badli, Outer North Delhi. The victims included 30-year-old Anita and her daughters aged 3, 5, and 7. The accused, Munchun Kewat, a vegetable seller at Azadpur Mandi, was arrested on March 1 from Kishangarh in Rajasthan. Kewat, a resident of Patna district in Bihar, had been absconding since the murders.

Police deployed 15 teams to track Kewat. CCTV footage captured him fleeing the scene in an e-rickshaw a day after the killings. DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said, “He will be produced before court for police custody.”

During interrogation, Kewat revealed he had taken a large loan from a loan shark in Bihar, which he could not repay. The lender threatened to kill him. He had also borrowed a small amount from his father-in-law. A senior police officer said, “Kewat said the man would call and threaten to kill him.” Police suspect the inability to repay the loans prompted the murders. He killed the daughters because he did not want to take responsibility for them.

The family lived in a rented room on the ground floor of a double-storey building in Chandan Park, Samaypur Badli. According to Hindustan Times, the daughters were aged 3, 4, and 5, while Indian Express reported 3, 5, and 7. Police are investigating the loan angle, but the lender's number was found switched off.
