National youth sports training and competition launches in Adama

A national youth sports training and competition has begun in Adama town, Oromia region administration. The event operates under the theme “Development of youth athletes for Ethiopia's progress” and was inaugurated at Adama Science and Technology University. Culture and Sports Minister Shweit Shanka stated that sports plays a key role in strengthening unity and national development.

Ethiopia's national youth sports training and competition kicked off on Katyit 1, 2018, in Adama town. This marks the first time all regions and the two city administrations are participating, with more than 3,000 athletes competing in 15 sports disciplines. The event aims to identify talented young sportspeople to bolster the country's athletic future.

At the opening ceremony, Culture and Sports Minister Shweit Shanka emphasized that sports offers significant opportunities for national development and fostering unity. The government is providing special focus on youth sports, which she noted is crucial for building competitive national teams in the coming years. The minister highlighted that this training and competition program plays a pivotal role in nurturing emerging talents.

Hosted at Adama Science and Technology University, the competition begins today and will run for several consecutive days. Participants will undergo training and matches across various sports, contributing to elevating Ethiopia's overall sports standards.
