Yash Raj Films has confirmed a July 10, 2026 theatrical release for Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's action film Alpha after denying OTT rumours. The movie marks the first female-led spy thriller in the YRF Spy Universe.
The release date for the much-anticipated film Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari has been announced. Yash Raj Films (YRF) officially confirmed on March 9, 2026, that the movie will hit theatres on July 10, 2026. Earlier reports suggested the film might skip a theatrical release following an alleged Rs 215 crore OTT deal with Netflix, but YRF strongly refuted these claims.
In a statement, YRF said, "Alpha is going to stream directly (is a rumor that) aims at putting a heroine-fronted film in an unflattering light. Yash Raj Films will never put films from its theatrical slate directly to streaming. We are a studio that takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences. Alpha is a tentpole movie for the company." The statement added that with Alia Bhatt headlining alongside Sharvari, the film aims to entertain audiences and receive the same love as other action movies.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha features Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in key roles, with Hrithik Roshan reprising his character Kabir in a cameo. The film is part of the YRF Spy Universe, which began in 2012 with Ek Tha Tiger. Previous entries include Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, and War 2, all of which were box-office successes. Alpha introduces the franchise's first female leads as fictional R&AW agents performing high-octane stunts.
The release has faced multiple delays: initially slated for Christmas 2025, then shifted to April 17, 2026, and now to July 2026 due to extended VFX work. Alia Bhatt shared the date on her Instagram Story, while YRF posted a teaser poster showing her bruised appearance.
