Carl Mott sentenced to 70 years for fatal stabbing in San Antonio

Carl Mott has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for murdering his lover's husband at a bus stop in San Antonio, Texas. The attack occurred on December 14, 2024, and involved a knife that Mott later discarded near his workplace. Authorities convicted him of murder and tampering with evidence.

On December 14, 2024, 61-year-old Carl Mott encountered 52-year-old Michael Bowman and his wife at a bus stop on the northeast side of San Antonio. Mott, who had been in a long-standing extramarital relationship with Bowman's wife, exchanged words with the couple before approaching Bowman with a knife and stabbing him in the upper left shoulder.

Bowman and his wife sought help at a nearby restaurant, where he was bleeding heavily. They identified Mott as the attacker and noted that he had assaulted Bowman in the past. Bowman later died from his injuries.

After the stabbing, Mott fled the scene. Surveillance footage captured him discarding the knife in bushes near his place of employment about 10 minutes later. Law enforcement identified Mott as the suspect and arrested him approximately 11 hours after the incident. The knife was recovered four days after the attack.

Mott was convicted of murder and tampering with evidence on January 30, 2025. On Friday, March 7, 2026, he was sentenced to 70 years in prison by the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated, "This was a senseless act of violence fueled by jealousy that cost a man his life." He added, "Today's sentence ensures the defendant is held accountable and that justice is delivered for the victim and his family."

The case highlights a violent confrontation stemming from personal relationships, resolved through evidence including witness identification and surveillance.
