The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers has issued a 14-day strike notice after the government failed to address longstanding grievances. The notice was sent on July 6 to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and other officials.
The union cited persistent failure by the Ministry of Health, the Council of Governors and county governments to resolve disputes from a June 17 demand notice. Key issues include the lack of permanent employment for Universal Health Coverage and Global Fund workers, unpaid gratuity and incorrect job group placements.
The notice references the Return-to-Work Formula of January 28 2026 and demands implementation of a collective bargaining agreement plus health risk allowances. If unmet, clinical officers plan industrial action that could affect public hospitals nationwide.
The Health Ministry stated that the transition of workers to permanent positions remains in progress and is being handled with county governors to avoid service disruptions.
