The justice and interior ministers announced measures on Sunday following the discovery of the 11-year-old girl’s body in the Gers. Gérald Darmanin ordered a review of 70,000 complaints involving children.
On Sunday, June 7, during a white march in Fleurance, Lyhanna’s relatives expressed emotion and anger. The girl had disappeared on May 29 and her body was found on Thursday in the Gers. Gérald Darmanin stated on LCI that there had been “serious failures.” He ordered prosecutors general to re-examine all complaints involving children, about 70,000 cases, by July 14. The minister said he would meet the prosecutors one by one and that sanctions, including revocation, were possible. Laurent Nuñez, appearing on France Télévisions, acknowledged a “failure” and noted six judicial procedures concerned the suspect. He added that an investigation by the National Gendarmerie General Inspectorate had been requested and that he would not resign.
