In an exclusive interview, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta outlined her government's plans to enhance air quality, improve transportation, and clean the Yamuna river. She also countered opposition allegations on past corruption. Gupta emphasized relentless efforts to meet public expectations.
In an interview on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta discussed her government's achievements over the past year and future plans. She highlighted Yamuna cleaning efforts, including drone surveys, upgrades to 35 sewage treatment plants, and tenders for 37 new decentralized STPs. STP capacity has increased from 700 MGD to 815 MGD, with a target of 1,500 MGD. Plans include 13 new large STPs.
Gupta stated, "We will ensure that the people of Delhi see development every year in terms of the quality of air, transportation, and the Yamuna." On air pollution, she mentioned a dust mitigation plan, anti-smog guns, road re-carpeting, and 100 percent greening. In the last year, 4,000 buses were added, with 14,000 fully electric buses planned for roads by 2029.
EV Policy 2.0 is set to be announced in the upcoming budget session, aimed at transforming transportation. For women, free cooking gas cylinders will be provided on Women's Day, and the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana along with an upgraded Ladli Yojana have been introduced. The Mahila Samriddhi Scheme will launch after financial stability is achieved.
To strengthen the startup ecosystem, collateral-free loans up to Rs 10 crore and a new startup policy have been approved. Gupta accused the previous AAP government of corruption, particularly in the liquor policy case. She questioned, "If your excise policy was so good, why did you withdraw it as soon as the investigation began?"
She cited the Atal Canteen as a source of personal satisfaction, serving meals to 1 lakh people daily. Her dream is to make Delhi clean, green, and beautiful.
