The British crime drama Ellis, which gained popularity after its 2024 debut on Channel 5, is set for a second season. The first episode airs on Tuesday, March 10, at 9pm, followed by the second on Wednesday, March 11, at the same time. The season consists of four episodes, with each pair focusing on one case.
Sharon D Clarke reprises her role as DCI Ellis, joined by Andrew Gower as DS Chet Harper and Charlotte McCurry as DC Kate Trent. New cast members include James Doran, Niamh Blackshaw, Cariad Lloyd, Keir Charles, Mark Addy, Stephen Tompkinson, and Sonny Ashbourne Serkis.
The storyline follows DCI Ellis as she is assigned to struggling investigations in northern England. Accompanied by Harper, she confronts divided communities and unexplained deaths that challenge her investigative skills and personal strength. One case involves the suspicious death of a community leader in a rural village, uncovering deep-seated grudges. Another centers on a young woman's death near a stone works, exposing a web of manipulation and abuse. Each investigation reveals underlying issues of quiet complicity, drive, and disloyalty.
Paul Testar, commissioning editor for scripted content at Channel 5, commented on the renewal: "Following the huge success of the first series of Ellis, we are thrilled for it to return with the brilliant Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower reprising their roles. We can’t wait to bring the detective duo back to the 5 audience next year."
Radio Times has shared an exclusive trailer and images from the episodes, highlighting the upcoming challenges for the lead character.
