The House of Representatives is not inclined to reopen its inquiry into the multibillion-peso flood control scandal because some of its members have been implicated.
House majority leader Sandro Marcos said the institution should not investigate an issue where its own members are part of the accused. He compared it to asking a student to grade their own paper in an exam.
Marcos stated that any result would be tainted and lack credibility. He suggested leaving the matter to the ombudsman and other bodies.
The remarks came after President Marcos delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address on July 27, 2026. Calls to reopen the probe, particularly from Duterte allies, were described by Marcos as possibly aimed at diverting attention from the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Several officials remain under investigation or in detention over the scandal, including Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and former senator Ramon Revilla Jr.
