Lee urges expanded US cooperation in technology and startups

President Lee Jae Myung told venture capitalists in San Francisco on Saturday that South Korea and the United States should expand cooperation beyond their security alliance into technology, innovation and startups.

President Lee Jae Myung met executives from six Silicon Valley venture capital firms, including Martin Casado of Andreessen Horowitz, Alfred Lin of Sequoia Capital and Hemant Taneja of General Catalyst.

He said combining the United States’ venture capital capacity with South Korea’s technology and manufacturing strengths would create new global innovators such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. Lee also pledged to reform the visa system to attract foreign startup talent.

Lee arrived in San Francisco on Friday while en route to Brazil, the first stop on his three-nation South America trip.
