Bannatyne Livingston club approved for three new padel courts

The Bannatyne Health Club and Spa in Livingston has received planning permission from West Lothian Council to build three new padel courts, the latest in the group's nationwide expansion of the popular racquet sport. The courts will be open to members and non-members alike, replacing former football pitches and enhancing local sports facilities.

The new full-size doubles padel courts at the club's Charlesfield Road site will feature artificial turf, glass and mesh surrounds, canopy covers, and floodlighting for year-round use. This follows similar developments, such as the recent expansion application at the group's Ingleby Barwick club and the sport's growing popularity across UK sites.

Padel blends tennis and squash on an enclosed court where the ball rebounds off walls, offering an accessible, social workout for all ages. Bannatyne is investing heavily in the sport amid its rapid UK growth.

Construction at Livingston is set to begin before summer, with courts opening to the public thereafter. Duncan Bannatyne, chairman and chief executive, said: “Padel is becoming one of the most popular participation sports in the UK and we are continuing to invest in courts across our clubs to meet that growing demand. The sport is accessible, sociable and great fun, which makes it a perfect fit for the Bannatyne community. These new courts in Livingston will give both members and local residents another exciting way to stay active and enjoy time together.”

The club already offers a gym, pool, spa, and classes, positioning padel as a key addition for community wellbeing.
