A 47-year-old man previously sentenced to 18 years for rape has been charged after assaulting a 19-year-old student in Aix-en-Provence. Released on June 6 after 15 years in prison, he committed the act at gunpoint during the night of July 10-11.
The man was arrested less than three hours after the incident. The victim provided police with the license plate number of her attacker, enabling his swift detention.
Aix-en-Provence prosecutor Jean-Luc Blachon stated that the man admitted to the facts during his initial hearing. He was charged with kidnapping, sequestration, rape and sexual assault with the threat or use of a weapon, in legal recidivism, and placed in provisional detention.
Sentenced in January 2013 by the Alpes-Maritimes assize court, the suspect had served his term with a 12-year security measure. His release had proceeded without incident during the final six months under an external placement regime.
