Jakarta, VIVA – On Monday, March 9, 2026, comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono returned to Bareskrim Polri headquarters for examination regarding a report of alleged insult to Toraja customs from his joke about funerals. This time, he arrived without his lawyer, Haris Azhar, accompanied only by his assistant, wearing a black jacket, a Mens Rea t-shirt, and a black cap.
Pandji suspects the examination will cover the Toraja adat trial he underwent earlier. "Ya, hari ini dipanggil, panggilannya kelihatannya untuk melanjutkan kasus Toraja," he said. He emphasized his hope for a peaceful resolution, aligning with restorative justice under the new KUHP that prioritizes peaceful conflict resolution.
"Ya kan kalau di KUHP baru kan diutamakan kan restorative justice. Terus bahwa sidang adat itu valid dan apa namanya diangkat diutamakan," Pandji stated. This stance is also supported by his lawyer, Haris Azhar, though he refrained from speculating on the legal outcome. Pandji affirmed he will follow all investigation stages.
The adat trial occurred on February 10, 2026, at Tongkonan Layuk Kaero, Sangalla, Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. The solemn event involved representatives from 32 Toraja adat regions and was facilitated by the Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (AMAN). Pandji attended in person with Haris Azhar.
The adat sanction included an apology and the obligation to provide one pig and five chickens as ritual complements. “Pelengkap dari ritual permohonan maaf kepada leluhur kami adalah satu ekor babi, lima ekor ayam,” said one adat leader presiding over the trial, quoted from Instagram account @infotoraja on February 11, 2026.
